As a nearly 50 year old woman – why should I step outside my comfort zone?

Picture this. Sweaty palms. What if nobody likes it? Where do I start with preparing for this? Heart racing. I feel sick. I need the loo for the millionenth time. If you’ve ever stepped outside your comfort zone, you’ll know it’s daunting, you’ll try to talk yourself out of it and go through all sorts of emotions and feelings in the process.

This is exactly what happened to me recently, I found myself way outside mine. I was invited to be a guest speaker at the Hereford & Worcester Chamber Health & Wellbeing Forum — my very first time speaking at an event like this. All I can say is, oh gawd!

When Nerves Take Over

My mind was racing. My heart was pounding. My body was doing that awkward nervous sweating thing that to be quite honest I usually only save for exercise times.

Thankfully, I had my dream support crew:

  • Jo Gaffney from the Style and Colour Company, who made sure I felt like my authentic self in clothes that gave me confidence – Personal Styling from The Style and Colour Company
  • Esther, my brilliant business coach, holding my hand (figuratively and literally) – Online Media Works
  • Dave the coach, smiling and giving me thumbs-up from the audience.

And, with a little humour — reminding myself that at least I had the right colour trousers on if disaster struck — I got up there and spoke.

Your Fitness Journey At Nearly 50 and Comfort Zones

As I reflected on the day, I realised this was exactly like the struggles many women in their late 40s go through when they decide they want to become more active, stronger, and healthier.

It’s not just about exercise — it’s about:

  • Overcoming self-doubt
  • Showing up even when it feels uncomfortable
  • Having the right toolkit and support system
  • Finding movement that fits your real life, not someone else’s idea of “fitness”

When I coach women, I help them discover and realise movement that is:

  • Simple (you don’t need a gym)
  • Enjoyable (so you actually want to do it)
  • Doable (in short bursts, which I call Movement Snacks, that fit into your day)

How My Nutritious Movements 10-Day Challenge Engaged and Inspired

I knew I wanted to make my talk fun, practical, inspiring and doable. But, as always, helping people realise the magic and power of simple bite sized movements. That’s why I created my brand-new Nutritious Movements 10-Day Challenge — a collection of 10 bite-sized movement snacks designed especially for women over 40 who want to:

  • Build strength in a meaningful way
  • Feel more energised
  • Feel more at ease with moving for your daily routine
  • Feel more confident in their bodies

You don’t need hours at the gym. You don’t need expensive equipment. You do need:
✅ 5–10 minutes a day
✅ A willingness to try something new
✅ A belief that you do matter and your health and confidence are worth investing in

Why This Matters for Women Over 40

  • “Too unfit” to start

  • Worried about aches, stiffness or low energy

…this challenge is your gentle, encouraging push in the right direction.

Because stepping outside your comfort zone — whether it’s speaking in front of a crowd, or trying your first movement snack — is the first step towards change.
